Super What?

Feb. 2, 2012

Cities shut down for it. Streets are restricted. People rearrange meetings. Schools close. Businesses tell their employees to take time off. The chatter about this event seemingly continues longer than any event on which most have ever focused. You would think it had eternal consequences–that this event is, indeed, life-changing for every soul.

Be a church people want to attend

Jan. 20, 2012

“I’m planting a church people will never want to attend,” a non-Wesleyan church planter commented to a friend of mine who had moved to her town. When I heard it, my mind began to race. Maybe this statement entices people to wonder what kind of church that would be?

Sanctity of life

Jan. 20, 2012

We believe that life is a gift from God and must always be regarded as sacred. We believe that decisions about the edges of life that were not even contemplated in previous times are now necessary. Although the necessity of making such decisions is new, the way Christians should make decisions has not changed.

Be a disciple-making disciple in 2012

Jan. 6, 2012

I recently read that only one of every twenty Christians has ever told someone his faith story of knowing Jesus personally. Forgive me for not knowing the source, but if that’s even close to being true, we all need to get serious about following Jesus’ imperative of the Great Commission to “make disciples of all nations” (Matthew 28:19-20).

BGS National Human Trafficking Awareness Day proclamation

Dec. 29, 2011

Recognizing that the trafficking of humans is an evil practice that is increasing worldwide, and remembering the efforts of our Church's founding fathers and mothers who risked their very lives to free the enslaved and bring justice to all people, the Board of General Superintendents of The Wesleyan Church calls Wesleyans everywhere to a day of intercession and intervention on behalf of the victims and perpetrators of human trafficking on January 11, 2012.

Nothing More Important

Dec. 5, 2011

If ABC, CNN or Fox News had been covering the news in 1809, their broadcasts would have concentrated on Austria. The attention of the entire world was focused on Napoleon as his forces swept through that country like a fire sweeps through a dry wheat field. In 1809 nothing was more important than Napoleon and his invasions, right?

Glory in the Highest!

Dec. 5, 2011

I love Christmas! It is, by far, my favorite time of the year. I love the sounds and symbols of Christmas so much I’ve been known to switch all of our CD’s (back in the day) in our “changer” to Christmas music by mid-September. Am I crazy? Maybe. Time will tell.

Do whatever Jesus tells you to do

Nov. 16, 2011

God is still calling hundreds to serve Him with their lives throughout The Wesleyan Church and beyond. I’ve been reminded of this first hand recently. By watching our youth tangibly answer the call of God on their future at Follow tours, as well as standing in front of a group of ministerial students in a FLAME course, I’m convinced that many are listening to God’s voice and direction.

I’m Not a Faker Anymore!

Nov. 8, 2011

At a recent Wesleyan Youth Follow Conference, a young man from South Dakota made a bold statement. As he responded to the work of Jesus Christ in his heart, he said: “I’m not a faker anymore!” Apparently, until that moment he felt like his walk with Jesus was phony.

It Should Come Naturally

Oct. 24, 2011

My pastor friend, Steve DeNeff, has recently been saying something I like a lot: “Spiritual formation is the most important thing I do.” He’s right. And not because he’s the pastor of a local church. He’s right because everything in the Christian faith centers on what individuals do with Jesus in decisions of salvation, along with the actions of their daily walk with Him this side of heaven.
