Communications is Realigned

An Interview with Dr. Ronald D. Kelly

Ronald D. Kelly, General Secretary of The Wesleyan Church (pictured with his wife, Tana), also serves as director of the Department of Communications, General Editor, and editor of Wesleyan Life.

WL: Dr. Kelly, with the merger of the General Secretary's office and the Department of Communications, it seems like a few pages have been added to your job description.

RK: Definitely! But I look forward to the added dimension of ministry that the new department will bring. My work has been largely administrative, but the bottom line has always been communicating the message of the gospel and serving the Lord by serving His people.

WL: What are some of your objectives for the department?

RK: Several. First, I want to continue to improve communication between The Wesleyan Church World Headquarters and the districts, local churches, institutions, and auxiliaries.

Second, I want to increase the quality of our department's ministry. By combining the staff from the former departments and focusing on improving our print and online publications, I believe we will be able to utilize the strengths of the team in an effective way.

Third, I want to see the department develop new communications media. We will resource the technology that will help us more effectively fulfill the Great Commission in the spirit of the Great Commandment.

WL: Are there plans to replace The Wesleyan Hour?

RK: No. The last broadcast aired June 29, 2008. However, archived messages by speaker Dr. Norman G. Wilson will be available to listeners on the church's Web site, www.wesleyan.org. That will continue for the immediate future.

In addition, other media ministries are being researched, in keeping with our mission and overall objectives. I look forward to serving the Church as both its General Secretary and leader of its communications effort.
