Eastern Hills Wesleyan Provided Community Support Following Plane Crash
Eastern Hills Wesleyan Church is located just 1 1/2 miles from the site of the crash of Flight 3407 which killed fifty, including passengers, crew, and the owner of a home destroyed in the crash. The Western New District church of nearly 4,000 quickly became a ministry center to minister to the shocked community.
Led by Senior Pastor Karl Eastlack, Eastern Hills staff and volunteers provided lunch to the hundreds of rescue and clean-up workers, opened a 24-hour prayer chapel, held a community memorial service, and raised funds for victim’s families—including those of their own church who lost loved ones in the wreck of the commuter plane. Eastern Hills attender Brad Green and the sisters of two other church families were among the victims.
Eastlack and the Eastern Hills congregation were highlighted in the news reports of the major news networks, and pictures of the prayer service were published in newspapers across the nation. Pastor Eastlack said, “We are asking all caring Wesleyans to pray for the families of these victims and that God could use a Wesleyan church to represent His love in difficult times.”
