Not That Way!
Isaiah 55:6-9
As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts. (Isa. 55:9)
THAT'S NOT HOW YOU DO IT! If you're married, chances are you've either heard or said that phrase. If you're a wife and your husband has tried his hand at cooking a favorite dish, you might have watched him add a teaspoon of oregano rather than a tablespoon. You held it in as long as you could and then, "Not that way!" Or, if you're a husband who's watched your wife hang a picture, you let her make only so many nail holes before you burst out, "Just let me do it!" As spouses, we often say these things in frustrationl, though maybe a little less oregano might work, and the picture will hide those holes anyway. God, however, doesn't tell us how much better His ways are because He's frustrated. Rather, He wants us to know His ways are always better because He loves us. He knows if we follow His ways we'll spare ourselves pain, suffering, and some very unpleasant consequences. Implied in this passage is the concept of trust. Because God's thoughts and ways are always higher than ours, because He always has the big picture (no pun intended) inmind, we can trust Him to lead us in the best paths. While you may not trust your spouse with a paring knife or a tack hammer, you can trust God with your life, today and forever!
