Repent and Refresh
Acts 3:17-21
Repent, then, and turn to God, . . . that times of refreshing may come from the Lord. (Acts 3:19)
CENTRAL AIR CONDITIONING is one of modern life's great blessings. In Colorado, however, we seldom need it. Summer temperatures may hit ninety during the day, but nights usually cool down into the sixties. On those rare nights when the air stays warm and heavy, though, after I whine about needing central air, I avail myself to the next best thing: a cool shower just before bed. It's downright refreshing to wash away the dirt and sweat, and just let the water do its job. Likewise, when we repent and turn to God (yes, I've had to confess coveting central air), He brings refreshment into our lives. We feel clean and new, energized even. Our desires turn 180 degrees from living bogged down by our fears (What if I lose my job? Should I marry this guy? Do I have enough money to retire?) and desires (If I can just get that promotion . . . If only she says yes . . . If I can make just a little more money . . .) to living in the light and warmth of God's perfect plan for us ("My God will meet all your needs according to his glorious riches in Christ Jesus" [Phil. 4:19]). Central air is a luxury, but living in the center of God's will is a necessity!
