Glorious Grace
Titus 2:11-15
For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men. (Titus 2:11)
AS I DROVE THE CAR down the hill, a red light suddenly flashed in the rearview mirror. "But I was going downhill," I told the patrolman. "I couldn't help going over the speed limit." He brushed aside my excuse and handed me the ticket I deserved. One day I heard similar words: "You will pay and pay and pay," Satan said, pointing an accusing finger in my direction. "The penalty for sin is death." But someone beckoned to me. "There is no charge," He said. "Just come." And although I was guilty and didn't deserve mercy, Jesus held out nail-scarred hands to welcome me. That day I experienced God's favor and received His grace. Grace is an attribute of God and calls us to His side. When we come, this virtue justifies us and helps us believe in Christ. As we read God's Word, His grace warns us to avoid ungodly activities and worldliness, instructing us how to conduct our lives to please Him.We grow in this quality, developing patience, kindness, and self-control. And it is comforting to realize His grace actually increases when our trials are especially severe. Obedience is the key through which we access God's favor. God's undeserved grace touches every area of our lives, every day, molding us into the image of the gracious One, Jesus.
