Rev. Al Goracke has been appointed to serve as the acting district superintendent of the Illinois District in The Wesleyan Church. Church officials appointed Rev. Goracke on June 8, 2012, at the Illinois District Conference.
The long-time pastor will serve quarter time in this position while continuing to serve full-time as senior pastor at Kingswood Church in Minneapolis, Minnesota. This will be a new paradigm of ministry, and the Illinois District will enhance its communication structures to ensure vision and mission are both accomplished. The organizational structure of Illinois will be redesigned to empower local leaders to provide personal ministry care to the churches and pastors.
The cost savings of this model will be returned to local churches through an aggressive church planting initiative, which will focus on planting new churches in the Chicagoland area.
“Al has great vision and energy and the District Board of Administration is working side by side with him to accomplish the task set before him,” said General Superintendent Dr. Jo Anne Lyon. “He has a great passion for Chicago and the district is rising to the call.”
Reverend Al Goracke earned a Master’s degree in Ministry (MA) from Indiana Wesleyan University. He is currently working on his Doctor of Ministry degree in Church Leadership with a concentration in Organizational Systems at Bethel Seminary. Al has been married to his wife, Pam, for 27 years and has two grown children, Elizabeth and Andrew.
