Kansas Governor Sam Brownback will speak at Indiana Wesleyan University graduation ceremonies on August 11, 2012, at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. in the IWU Chapel Auditorium.

Before being elected governor, Brownback served one term in the U.S. House of Representatives and two terms in the U.S. Senate. He retired from the Senate in 2010 to honor a term-limit commitment he made when he first was elected. Brownback grew up on a family farm near Parker, Kansas, and was the state president of the Future Farmers of America in high school. He later was the student body president at Kansas State University where he earned a degree in agricultural economics. Brownback also has a law degree. Brownback became familiar with IWU as the result of visits by President Henry Smith and Executive Vice President Keith Newman to explore opportunities for an IWU medical school in Kansas.
