A well-known Wesleyan leader and World War II veteran was recently honored, including an expenses-paid trip to Washington, D.C.

Dr. Wayne Caldwell, an ordained minister with The Wesleyan Church, traveled to Washington, D.C., on September 11 with 79 other Indiana World War II veterans. The one-day trip from Indianapolis to D.C. was sponsored by Indy Honor Flight. This nonprofit based in Indianapolis honored the 80 veterans with a visit to Arlington National Cemetery, the National World War II Memorial, and other sites.

According to the Indianapolis Star, Caldwell said the trip was “out of this world.” He also said, “I seldom if ever see a group of veterans like this. Where I see veterans is in healthcare centers.”

Dr. Caldwell, 88, attends Fall Creek Wesleyan Church in Fishers. He is a former university professor at Indiana Wesleyan University and Miltonvale College, now Oklahoma Wesleyan University. He served as the General Editor of The Wesleyan Church from 1984 to 1992.
