History was made in Colombia in October as The Wesleyan Church ordained two female pastors, a first in this South American country.
Rev. Lucia Lopez de España and Rev. Luz Angela Piñeros de Quintero both co-pastor churches with their husbands. Rev. Lucia de España and Rev. Reinaldo España pastor a church in Neiva, while Rev. Luz Angela de Quintero and Rev. José Quintero are co-pastors of a church in Bogota.
Dr. Jo Anne Lyon, General Superintendent of The Wesleyan Church of North America, delivered the special message at the ordination service and presented certificates to both Rev. Lucia de España and Rev. Luz Angela de Quintero.
“God is writing a new story for The Wesleyan Church of Colombia with the ordination of the first two very gifted women,” said Dr. Lyon. “I was deeply honored to be a part of this Holy Spirit anointed service and believe there are many more to follow.”
“This was the first ordination (of women) within The Wesleyan Church of Colombia since work there began in 1941 and has opened the doors for others,” said Jarvis Ferguson, area director for the Ibero-America region for Global Partners. “Sixteen women pastors from the Central District accompanied the two women, many of whom will be following their steps to ordination in future years.
Pastors and leaders from the other two districts in Colombia also attended the ordination service.
