Wisdom is supreme; therefore get wisdom. Though it cost all you have, get understanding. (Prov. 4:7)

I KNOW a seventeen-year-old who loves to study and learn. No, it’s not me. I’ve been around a few students in ministry experiences, but I have never witnessed a student like her. Her pursuit of wisdom and knowledge is relentless. She seems to be constantly doing her homework, and it pays off with an outstanding grade point average.

Gaining insight or wisdom does not come naturally for most disciples of God’s way. It takes effort. It often takes sacrificial effort. Time, determination, hard work, relentless pursuit, and sacrificial obedience are all involved when following Jesus. In fact, going after the wisdom of God is a lifetime quest. There really is no graduation ceremony in this life that says you have finally met the requirements for gaining all God has to offer about himself and what you can know about His way.

Starting a relationship with someone is just the beginning of knowing his or her thoughts and interests in life. It is no different in our walk with God. Once a person accepts God’s saving grace through Jesus Christ, the pursuit of knowing Him and being guided by His wisdom is off to a terrific start. The remainder of life on earth gives each of us the opportunity to trust His wisdom to guide and watch over us.

Talk to someone whom you consider wise. Ask what steps you need to take to gain more wisdom.
