More Volunteers Needed for Hurricane Ike Cleanup

Thousands of people remain without power in Texas. The long process of restoring communities hit by Hurricane Ike has just begun. World Hope International, a compassionate relief partner with The Wesleyan Church, is currently working to clean homes and salvage belongings, but the number of requests pouring in has been overwhelming. Many more volunteers are needed to continue this work and expand WHI’s capacity to help. Relief work will continue through at least November 7.  See the full story in “NEWS” http://www.wesleyan.org/doc/news

Board of General Superintendents Call to Prayer

Recent headlines have been filled with unprecedented economic news on the world economy. In the midst of a growing sense of crisis, we realize this brings anxiety to thousands of Wesleyans.  Perhaps some are seeing their funds shrink to the point of significant fear of the future. A common reaction could be “spiritual contraction” in response to the “economic contraction” . . . which results in turning inward.
As the Board of General Superintendents of The Wesleyan Church, we do not propose to have answers to the economic crisis. But we declare to Wesleyans around the world that we serve a God of love and goodness.  Our hope is rooted in the death and resurrection of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Because of this hope, we call Wesleyans to pray for . . .
  • The leadership of nations as they deal with the impact of this crisis.
  • The poor who are already suffering from food shortages and rising costs.
  • Courage and commitment for generosity in the face of fear and panic.
  • Local churches as they minister to families in need.
