Urban Urgency

The Hope & Holiness Trust project for Urban Urgency will empower The Wesleyan Church to minister effectively to lost people in the urban centers of North America by establishing new churches that impact the community through compassionate service.

Why Target North American Cities?

Now for the first time in our history more North Americans live in our cities rather than in rural areas.

In cities all across this continent where large population centers are the world’s most ready spiritual fields. Cities are centers of excitement and fear, wealth and poverty, creativity and decay. They are full of potential and inequality—diversity and segregation—goodness and wickedness—light and darkness—optimism and despair—righteousness and temptation.

We are committed to plant churches in North America and international urban centers that minister to all kinds of people. The need is before us as we realize these urban population facts:

  • 259 million (82% of a total US population of 315 million lived in cities in 2010
  • One generation from now (by 2040) 90% of Americans will live in urban areas
  • 27.2 million (81%) out of a total Canadian population of 33.8 million live in cities in 2010
  • One generation from now (by 2040) 86% of Canadians will live in urban areas
  • Half of the world’s 6.9 billion people were urban dwellers in 2010
  • One generation from now (by 2040) nearly two-thirds of the world population will be in urban areas
