Writer Guidelines
Adult Nonfiction Books
Wesleyan Publishing House is an innovative leader in communicating the life-transforming message of holiness to the world. We are seeking adult nonfiction titles in the following categories
Bible Study
Books and resources that motivate adult believers to understand and apply God's Word to their lives. Recent titles include the Sisters in Faith Bible Studies and the Lectio Divina Bible Studies.
Christian Living
Books and resources that inspire Christians to live authentic Christian lives. Recent titles include There Is no "I" in Church: Moving Beyond Individual Spirituality to Experience God's Power, and Power Plays: Overcome the Need for Control and Live with Strength and Integrity.
Spiritual Formation
Books that provide direction to Christians for deepening their personal relationship with God. Recent titles include The Rhythm of Prayer: A Forty Day Experience and The Busy Mom's Guide to Spiritual Survival.
Ministry Leadership
Books and resources that provide solutions for pastors. Recent titles in this area include Can't Wait for Sunday: Leading Your Church in Authentic Worship and The Ripple Church: Multiply Your Ministry by Parenting New Churches.
Writing We Cannot Use
We are not currently publishing fiction, memoirs or personal experience, poetry, children's books, academic works or textbooks. We publish very few devotionals. Titles of this type must have a unique focus.

Periodicals
Light from the Word
Light from the Word is a daily devotional, published quarterly, with a circulation of approximately 27,000. We look for clean, tight, inspirational writing that makes minimal use of first person. Writing must lead readers to discover a biblical truth and apply that truth to their lives. Each devotional contains a title, theme verse, body text, and action statement of affirmation. Sample copies are available on request; send requests to submissions@wesleyan.org.
Devotionals are written by assignment; a typical assignment is for seven devotionals of 215 words each. Payment is $100 for seven devotionals.
Writers who would like to be considered for an assignment may submit devotional writing samples to submissions@wesleyan.org. Write "Devotional Samples" in the subject line.
VISTA
VISTA: A Journal of Holy Living is an eight-page weekly periodical that supports Christians in living as fully devoted disciples of Jesus Christ.
We are looking for the following:
- Short articles for adults—articles for general spiritual growth, developing prayer life, habits of Bible reading, spiritual disciplines, evangelism, fellowship in the community of faith.
- For young adults—articles on connecting with other Christians, career issues, budgeting, finding a spouse, dating and courtship, sexual purity, establishing a church home.
- For families—homework help, getting children ready for school, dealing with teachers, marriage and relationship strengthening, budgeting, family devotions, teaching your faith to your children.
- For empty nesters—estate planning, retirement or second career/ministry, giving, taking care of elderly parents, rekindling romance.
- For grandparents and older adults—how to handle the holidays, making new friends, coping with loss (loved ones, health, independence), downsizing, remarriage after losing a spouse.
We acquire the following types of writing for VISTA—
- Inspirational fiction or nonfiction (500-550 words)
- Practical, how-to nonfiction (500-550 words)
- Humor (250-300 words)
- Fillers on Christian topics (100 words)
Payment varies from $5 to $35.
