A mother who is a friend of mine sent me a SOS to pray. She has four children who are all involved in sports, Bible bowl, and other activities. Her young son anticipated his first baseball game of the season and because of the poor weather forecast all the events were going to be moved to Sunday. What would she do? Her son was scheduled to be involved in the worship service also. She struggled! She did not want to be viewed as one of those self-righteous, inflexible, judgmental Christians. She also wanted to plant seeds about the importance of church and the things of God. She had talked with her son and they had cried and prayed together about what they should do.
I prayed without giving advice. Two days later she sent me this email:
"God is good and He does answer prayer! The coach revised the schedule and their son was able to be at church and play baseball."
Conversations were held with friends, her family, her son, and others about the importance of faith and the challenge of prioritizing activities. As with all of us there are and will be opportunities for us to wrestle with decisions that need to be made. One size does not fit all and there is no simple answer for everyone! My friend felt good about the process and thrilled by the outcome. She wanted to honor the Lord in all ways and in all things.
