Holding on to What You’ve Been Taught
I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you. (Ps. 119:11)
Expanded Passage: Psalm 119:9-16
Jennifer grew up in a small town and came from a respectable family. She went to church every Sunday, and from an early age could recite Bible verses. She also sang as part of the youth choir. At the age of eighteen she moved away from home to a much larger city to pursue her university education. Once at university, Jennifer was invited to many parties and social events. At times she was tempted to engage in the “fun” that her peers were having. However, Jennifer made sure that she found a local church, not far from her campus and volunteered within the youth ministry. She later explained that her ability to abstain from activities that did not honor God came from the teachings of her parents. Jennifer held on to the fact that despite where she was in the world, God was always present.
As believers, we may encounter times in our lives when we are away from what is familiar. Again, we may face times when there are pressures to conform to the environment around us. Being a child of God means that we carry the awareness of who God is and what he says everywhere we go. Therefore, no matter what changes happen to us or around us, if we are anchored to the Word of God, we can stay true to our faith.
Hold on to God in every situation.
