“Two men will be in the field; one will be taken and the other left.” (Matt. 24:40)
MISSOURIANS MAY NOT CHANGE THEIR MINDS EASILY. If the nickname given to our state rings true, we have to be shown something in order to believe it. However, one thing in Missouri does change suddenly and often—the weather.
In both winter and summer, we regularly have significant temperature changes within a single day. February days can swing from mild to miserable, summers days from heavenly to humid. It’s hard to know how to dress from one day to the next. When snows blow in, we stock up on bread and milk. When warm days come our way, we open the windows for a bit of respite from the cold.
Jesus wanted His disciples, along with all of us, to comprehend just how quickly events will happen when He returns for His children. He wanted to demonstrate the suddenness and permanency of that moment. The repeated words taken and left show the suddenness and finality of that event.
While Missouri weather is fickle, it is never final. Though Christ’s return will be swift, it will not be changed. We must be ready for that final storm, forecasted two thousand years ago by the master weather maker. We must be faithful and believe, even though we’ve not yet seen, that He will come just as He said—whether we hale from Missouri or anywhere else.
Walk in faith, confident and ready for His return.
