If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him. (James 1:5)

A young woman had been struggling at work, trying to avoid errors but failing miserably. Customers complaints were getting back to her boss, who was getting on her back about her performance. The added stress only caused the mistakes to increase. Out of desperation, she attended a prayer seminar looking for wisdom. There she discovered a sense of peace, which helped her concentrate. At the end of the next day’s shift, a customer said to her supervisor, “This girl is very good. I was pleased with her service. Tell the owner, please.” After a second customer passed along a similar compliment, the young woman realized that God had answered her simple prayers.

According to James, there is one prayer request to which God will always say “yes”—the petition for wisdom, especially in the midst of difficult circumstances. This young woman needed a greater sense of God’s presence to become efficient in her work, and so she looked to the Lord for wisdom. God’s work in her life soon became evident in the feedback of those whom she served.

Every decision we make in life, big or little, requires wisdom if those choices are to honor God and bear fruit for the kingdom. For this reason, God is willing to give that wisdom to anyone who seeks it out with a humble heart.

Ask God for wisdom about a decision you make today.
