All your commands are trustworthy. (Ps. 119:86)
GOD’S WORD IS A TRUSTWORTHY guide for our lives. His Word is true, and you can always depend on it.
Nearly every verse in this part of Psalm 119 carries a synonym for God’s Word. The writer spoke of God’s promise, His decrees, His law, His commands, His statutes, and His precepts. But however you say it, His Word is trustworthy.
A few years ago, cbsnews.com reported an incident that occurred in Orange Park, Florida. It seems a man was carrying his garbage to a trash bin when two men accosted him and shot him in the chest. Fortunately, the man had two New Testaments in his shirt pocket, and those New Testaments stopped the bullet.
The police took the Testaments as evidence, and at the time of the report, the two unknown assailants were still at large. The accosted man told the police he was carrying the New Testaments in his pocket with the intention of giving them to friends.
Carrying a Bible in your shirt pocket may be one way to protect yourself against threats and enemies. The ancient psalmist discovered another way—a way to protect yourself against the threat of falling victim to sin. Lifting his voice to God, he prayed, “I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you” (Ps. 119:11).
Take God’s commands into your heart and discover how trustworthy they are.
