“Every beginning has an end.” I love a good story. And most often, my way of fully enjoying story has been through movies. Over the years of watching, I have become enamored with how a storyline can grow deeper once you know the ending. Things once dismissed as insignificant can be quickly elevated to prominence in light of the conclusion.
“I am making everything new” (v. 5). Everything John had been privileged to see was accomplished by the one who makes all things new: “the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End” (v. 6). You guessed it; here comes the boomerang of the past. This story began and will end with a garden home of heaven and earth filled with family.
“In the beginning, God” (Gen. 1:1); “the Beginning and the End” (Rev. 21:6). Everything in this story has been about its author. All the seemingly insignificant parts of the story now fit together, like a puzzle displaying the intelligence of its author. When you see God at both beginning and end, it is hard to miss him in the middle.
If every ending is the beginning of a new story, then certainly this author can write you a new story. The only way to rediscover the story is to surrender to the author. He was in your beginning and is at your end. You can trust him with the middle.
Trust God, “the Beginning and the End”; seek him in the middle.
