Where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. (Matt. 6:21)

When someone you know is missing, you may wind up driving back and forth across the city to look for him or her. If the matter is urgent, the trip may go across the state or even the country. When you have looked in all the obvious places, including his or her home and place of employment, you start asking yourself, “Where else might I find him?” “Has she ever mentioned a favorite restaurant, a park where she relaxes, or an organization she belongs to?”

You can use the same process to track down your heart. When you find that your spiritual life is shallow or even dying, ask yourself, “Where is my heart? Has something captured my interest and pulled me away from God?” Even things that seem good on the surface—physical fitness, second job, or wholesome entertainment—can drain the time you could be spending on your relationship with God.

Treasure your time with God every day. Read His Word and commit His directions to memory. Talk with Him in prayer, and turn over to Him both your victories and your pain. When you begin to treasure Him, your heart will enjoy staying in His presence more and more.

Discard anything that pulls you away from God.
