Who is like you, Lord God Almighty? You, Lord, are mighty, and your faithfulness surrounds you. (Ps. 89:8)

Expanded Passage: Psalm 89:5-8

Leo Tolstoy said, “The sole meaning of life is to serve humanity.” This is proven true because Jesus spent his entire life on earth serving the humans he created. Other mythological gods spent their time in far-off realms being catered to or wreaking havoc on earth because of human failures. Our God, the living God, came to earth and took on the life of a servant and sacrificed his very own life to offer atonement and redemption to us.

God’s faithfulness, the faithfulness that deserves all praise and worship, is in his willingness to endure all of that for a callous, stiff-necked people (i.e., all of humanity). He served and sacrificed before you were even a thought. His love for us is not contingent on our ability to earn it or perform well enough. It is available as you are.

Every generation discovers that true happiness and fulfillment come from serving others. The secular world has even begun to embrace this reality through the influence of business practices and lifestyle gurus.

Christ’s life can be summarized in his atoning, redemptive sacrifice. This sacrifice was not a Levitical construct necessary in a cosmic checklist. Our God showed us how to live by coming down to earth, dwelling among us, and offering himself in the ultimate act of service. We are built to worship God and serve others, just as Jesus did.

Come up with a plan to serve someone this week.
