Be careful that you do not forget the Lord, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery. (Deut. 6:12)

Expanded Passage: Deuteronomy 6:10-12

“Are you really calling your mom to help us find a hermit crab?” I heard as I picked up my phone. My mom had a routine of praying when items went missing. Sometimes recovery would come as soon as she said “Amen.” My family knew if something was lost, it was time to call mom. We contacted her when we lost keys, glasses, wallets, and now, a hermit crab.

The crab had gotten out of its cage earlier that morning and midafternoon we still had no luck finding the pet. Hanging up the phone I stated, “Mom said a prayer for us.” Within five minutes we heard a scratching noise nearby and to our amazement, it was the hermit crab! I instantly pressed redial and told her we had found the crab. Mom responded, “Now, we need to thank him.” She continued, “So many times we ask God for things, but then we forget to thank him.”

Moses told Israel not to forget how God provided for them in the wilderness. When there was nothing to drink, he brought water from a rock. When there was no food, he supplied manna to eat. All along their journey, God provided for them.

Do we find the time to thank God for our blessings or do we take what we ask for and forget to say ‘Thanks’? Let us remember any provisions, great or small, are from him.

Say “thank you” for the provisions you receive today.
