Listen to today’s devo!

But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law. (Gal. 5:18)

Expanded Passage: Galatians 5:18-21

Every summer as a child, we would camp at the beach with our family. I loved this time of being together, playing in the sun, and feeling the water get warmer as the day wore on. The best part was at night when we walked the boardwalk to get treats. My parents were attentive to where we were going and ensured that we all stayed together. I stayed close to my parents and clutched my dad’s hand in those highly crowded areas. I remember the safety of holding my dad’s hand, knowing I would reach the destination safely and encounter a delicious treat.

I wonder if God, like my dad, is inviting us to reach out, hold his hand, and let him lead us to the destination that will bring fulfillment instead of getting lost in the shiny, appealing things that ultimately bring destruction and chaos. The Spirit invites us to be ourselves through God and embody the self-giving love of God.

And as we face the temptation of the flesh, we can be reminded that God is calling us to do something better, to take his hand, embrace who we are as his beloved child, and be more fully ourselves as we walk with him throughout life.

Ask God: Where do I need You to lead me?
