I will save you and give the Midianites into your hands. (Judg. 7:7)

I watched the youth pastor with great interest. On the table in front of him were a box of baking soda and a bottle of vinegar. He told the teens who were watching him, “If you were to look in your refrigerator, many of you would find a box of baking soda. There is nothing special about baking soda. However, let baking soda meet vinegar and watch what happens!” The youth pastor then poured vinegar onto the baking soda. What a reaction occurred!

The youth pastor then shared, “Let me tell you how this applies to our lives. Each of us is like baking soda. We are regular, ordinary people. The vinegar represents Jesus Christ! When we connect with Jesus, he can do some exciting things with our lives.”

Gideon was an ordinary, timid farmer. When God told him to go and deliver Israel from the Midianites, Gideon’s initial response was, “How can I save Israel? My clan is the weakest in Manasseh, and I am the least in my father’s house.” God then told Gideon that if he would submit and be obedient to him, God would use him to bring victory to Israel.

One of the biggest lies of the devil is that God will use only special people. God doesn’t use people because they are special; they are special because God uses them.

Even if you feel ordinary, have faith that God can use you.
