Listen to today’s devo!

For everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith. (1 John 5:4)

Some years, we witness one of the teams in the Super Bowl “snatching defeat from the jaws of victory” in the last seconds of the game. They should have won, but in the end, they simply lost. No one likes to lose, particularly in the really big things of life. Do we need to be reminded there are bigger things than the Super Bowl?

Scripture often uses the term world to speak of what is not of God—even opposed to God. The world seeks to subvert the values of the follower of Christ. It battles for the mind and soul of every person. It is an ally of the Enemy who seeks to keep us from the eternal reward of the righteous.

As long as we live in this fallen world, we will be in a battle, and battles produce winners and losers. There may be some losses we will experience in our lifetime, but we don’t want to be losers in the battle of life. There is too much at stake. Thanks be to God, the children of God are born to be winners. As long as we have our faith in Christ and are born of God, we will overcome the world and win the battle that really matters. We can snatch victory out of the jaws of defeat.

When watching the Super Bowl, thank God for making you a winner.
