Grace and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Savior. (Titus 1:4)
The title of a painting that hangs in one of England’s museums is simply Through. One has to understand the story behind this painting before being able to grasp what the artist was seeking to convey. During World War II, a soldier had been ordered to enter the battlefront to repair a breach in the communication lines. The message that was to flow through those lines would mean life to hundreds, possibly even thousands, of men and women. However, if the message did not get through, many of these lives would have been lost. After hours of searching, the soldier eventually found the break in the wires. As he took in the scene before him, he knew he was faced with a problem. He did not have enough wire to make the needed repair. While the enemy shells were exploding around him, he came up with a solution. He took one broken cable in his left hand and stretched out his right hand to grasp the other cable, making the needed connection so communications could get “through.” His sacrificial action saved many lives.
Similarly, Jesus Christ, by his vicarious death on the cross, repaired the breach between God and humankind. It is through Christ we can be at peace with God, ourselves, and those with whom we come in contact.
Point people to Jesus, who bridges the gap between God and man.
