The lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord Jesus will overthrow with the breath of his mouth and destroy by the splendor of his coming. (2 Thess. 2:8)

Have you ever met someone whose presence exudes respect? That was my father. He only needed to say a few words to show he meant business. His presence was enough to halt any childhood foolishness bound up in my heart. Very little action was required “to stir up good works” in me. Besides, I was not a fan of the action.

Second Thessalonians 2 says when the restrainer is removed, the lawless one will be revealed. Paul gave great details about the agenda of the man of lawlessness, including his name, character, rise, fall, reign, sin, and the ruin of him and his followers. The wicked one will command worship without question and will come to power using pretenses, deception, and unholy deeds. He will work false signs, wonders, and miracles to gain the allegiance of the unsaved, thereby leading them to the same destruction that awaits him. His followers will be seduced because they will not believe and love the truth, but, love unrighteousness.

This description of evil is no match for Christ’s power and the magnificence of his majesty. Christ’s breath and presence alone will abolish the kingdom of Satan. It will be rendered inactive and the Lord will judge Satan and his partners. They will be conquered, sentenced to death, and victory will belong to Christ forever.

Proclaim to someone the victory believers have in Christ.
