Lift up your eyes and look to the heavens. (Isa. 40:26)
Stepping onto the platform at my high school graduation was, by all rights, crazy. While I knew everything would be fine, I was overwhelmed by all that this one seemingly simple step would lead to.
Israel was faced yet again with the option to obey and make the step onto the new path or to rebel in sinful disobedience. As a means of strengthening reassurance, God tenderly reminded them of who he is—the Creator, the Most High God who called forth the starry host. Even more, he held them together in his strength. This new perspective led to a new path for Israel. A path unknown to them, but well-established by God. He called them forth to take the step of faith toward where he was leading them.
God’s calling on our lives is a big-picture dream made up of small, unnerving steps into the unknown. We can easily forfeit a dream by refusing to take the first step towards it. We feel God has great things ahead yet we never fully trust him with it entirely. Calling us to step toward his vision, God reassures us that he is the One who holds all together. Be assured, growing in God will call us forth into unknown steps, but if our sights are on him, then we can trust him to guide us toward his calling.
Take the first step into God’s big picture of the unknown.
