Listen to today’s devo!

Anyone who runs ahead and does not continue in the teaching of Christ does not have God. (2 John 9)

My dad likes to tell about a time we went through a haunted house at an amusement park. Although I just a little girl, I was bold, brave, and ready to prove I could do all the things the big kids could. In my excitement, I broke away from my dad and marched into the haunted house. It did not take long before the spooky theatrics drained any courage I’d had when I entered. I was terrified! I reached up for my father’s hand and squeezed tightly, but there was a problem. It wasn’t him! I was holding the hand of a total stranger! Thankfully my dad was watching the whole scene unfold. He quickly stepped to my rescue and carried me the rest of the way. I had learned my lesson. There was no way I was leaving his side after that!

John reminded us of the importance of keeping in step with God. When we fail to inspect the truth of our thoughts and follow our own wisdom, we risk losing the very presence of God. Patiently and closely following the teachings of Jesus nurtures fellowship with the Father and the Son.

We need to slow down our thoughts and make sure they are in line with truth. If we entertain ideas contrary to Jesus’ teaching, we may find ourselves venturing into scary territory without God’s presence to guide us.

Identify how you will continue in Christ’s teaching and walk with God.
