Listen to today’s devo!

I am the Living One; I was dead, and now look, I am alive for ever and ever! (Rev. 1:18)

Jesus told many not to be afraid. He told the disciples not to embrace fear as he walked on water. He repeated this message to the women at the tomb. He told those who witnessed his transfiguration the same thing. Jesus repeated this message so often because he knew that through his Holy Spirit he is always with us. Those who believe have no need to fear, because Christ is the Living One.

The people of John’s day in Rome faced many difficulties and threats. The government of Rome was trying to destroy every believer and church. But how was the church urged to respond? Trust in the Living One and be afraid of nothing.

Jesus offers life to everything we once thought was dead. He brings joy to bitter believers. He brings peace to violent wars. He can bring health from incurable disease. He can deliver those who are held captive. He restores lives, marriages, churches, communities, and nations.

God holds all things. He has complete dominion over death and hell itself. He has the authority to open the doors that keep you confined. He offers freedom from sin. Jesus offers deliverance from Hades. Death and hell are defeated through the life-giving resurrection of Jesus. Because of Jesus, we do not need to be afraid.

Look away from what causes you fear and instead stare at Jesus.
