A scroll was found in the citadel of Ecbatana in the province of Media, and this was written on it: Memorandum. (Ezra 6:2)

AT HOME I HAVE a large box that I have filled with notes and letters from dear friends and family members. They contain precious words of encouragement—some written as many as ten years ago. Normally they lie in the box, completely forgotten, but every once in a while, normally when I decide to do some cleaning, I rediscover them, and their words once again bring life to forgotten places of my heart.

The edict of Cyrus to rebuild the temple had long been forgotten. It had been stored away in some obscure place, left to gather dust and fade along with its memories. But then it was rediscovered, and it brought to mind the promise God had made to his people. It brought excitement and hope—a realigning of identity to a community that had desperately needed a reminder of who they were.

Maybe the Lord put a dream in your heart a long time ago. And maybe like Cyrus’s decree it has been placed on a shelf deep in the vaults of your heart, long forgotten. But now is the time to take it out! Dust it off and remember who you are and to what he is calling you. Maybe the dream was tucked away because of wrong timing, lack of finances, or difficult circumstances. But now it is time to find what has been lost!

Remember what you were created to do and who you were meant to be.

Meghan Baker describes herself as a broken person in desperate need of God’s presence every day. She has a beautiful man and young daughter with whom she is blessed to run life’s race.
