It is God who arms me with strength and makes my way secure. (Ps. 18:32)

This is the season when we find ourselves encouraged to make resolutions for the year to come. We’re not just flipping a calendar page this time; we’re starting over with a brand-new calendar. It’s the perfect time to think about changing our behaviors. But if we’re honest, those thoughts can exhaust us.

Whether you’re hoping to shed a few pounds, let go of a nasty habit you’ve hung onto most of your life, or work hard to see a longtime dream realized, the thought of all you need to do can be downright overwhelming from where you stand here on December 29. You’re tired already, and you haven’t even started! Maybe you’re wondering today if it’s even worth pursuing. Even if you’ve felt God’s nudge pushing you in this direction, you wonder if it’s even possible to achieve what he asks.

I have great news for you! God is your strength. The verses in Psalm 18 affirm that he arms us, enables us, trains us, sustains us, and best of all, he gives us the shield of victory! The hard work ahead isn’t meant to be done in our own strength. As we work to move toward the life he has called us to live, we’ll find he has also enabled us to live it. Don’t fear, my friend! He is faithful to strengthen you!

Run forward in obedience, enabled by the God who called you.
