Yet you are near, O Lord, and all your commands are true. (Ps. 119:151)

JAMES FREY wrote a controversial book titled A Million Little Pieces about his battle with addictions. Some of the story was made up, but I don’t think he made up the following: “I hate that there is no one to hear my scream and that there is no one to help me learn how to stop screaming. . . . More than anything, all I have ever wanted is to be close to someone. More than anything, all I have ever wanted is to feel as if I wasn’t alone.”

I think King David could relate. He wrote that evil men were near and devising wicked schemes. If you’ve ever felt alone and in desperate need of help, you can understand David’s plight. However, David didn’t stay focused on his circumstances, and neither should we. David came back to what he knew to be true: God is near, and His commands are true. David realized God was all he needed.

God is near to us, He came to earth in the form of a baby so that we can know He understands our problems. Two thousand years later, through His Spirit and His Word, He is still near. We can still call on Him in times of trouble.

Remember that God is near you today.
