You have given me the heritage of those who fear your name. (Ps. 61:5)

MARY ANN, A WIDOW, helped her son financially through several years of losses in his real estate business. She lived frugally, struggling to make ends meet. Imagine her joy when she received an unexpected inheritance.

Mary Ann’s inheritance came as the result of being related to a wealthy person. As heirs of God, we enjoy many benefits. Believers’ sins are under the blood, forgiven, never to be held against them. Those who belong to Jesus receive God’s peace and joy. The Lord promises to direct a believer’s earthly life. And that is only the beginning.

In the Bible we read about heaven, the place where Christians go after this life. There we will enjoy the city of God, a mansion, and golden streets. We receive a new name, a name inscribed in God’s Book of Life. As heirs of Christ, we will enjoy eternity with Him. Heirs escape the second death.

Yet heaven, with all its beauty, is not the inheritance we will glory in. God is our inheritance—His presence and peace. In His presence, we will forget earthly struggles. In His presence, money and possessions will fade from memory. All that God is will be the inheritance we will appreciate most in heaven.

Our imagination cannot fathom the glories we will one day enjoy as heirs of God.

Take two minutes to ponder your future with Jesus in glory.
