He rules forever by his power, his eyes watch the nations—let not the rebellious rise up against him. (Ps. 66:7)

DOES GOD KNOW WHAT’S HAPPENING in the world? The answer is yes—and He is in control. Recall what He did to Egypt, when that mighty nation oppressed His people! He drowned Egypt’s elite military in the Red Sea, but provided safe passage through the sea for His people (Ps. 66:6).

Or consider how He redeemed His people from the land of Babylon and replanted them in their homeland (see Ezra 7:27—8:1).

Also, isn’t it fascinating that God caused the Emperor of the Roman Empire to decree the census that brought Joseph and Mary to Bethlehem, where Jesus was born in fulfillment of Micah 5:2?

In World War 2, God delivered thousands of Allied soldiers from the grip of the Nazis by sending a thick fog to cover the soldiers’ escape across the English Channel in tiny boats. The event is remembered as the Miracle of Dunkirk.

Granted many in the Western World, even Christians, are fearful of groups like ISIS and rogue nations like North Korea and Iran. If we are tempted to tremble, let’s recognize that God watches the nations—all of them—and He is in control. Someday, when the nations gather together against the Lord and His Anointed One, God will terrify them in His wrath (see Ps. 2:2–5). So let’s trust and not tremble!
