The Lord has heard my cry for mercy; the Lord accepts my prayer. (Ps. 6:9)

MY WIFE WOKE ME with a sharp poke in my side. According to her, I was making strange sounds in my sleep that scared her. I was the one who was scared! Someone was chasing me in my dream, and I was trying to yell for help. For some reason I couldn’t get the words to come out right, and no one could hear me. It is bad when you need help but no one hears your cry.

Prayer takes many shapes and has various levels of intensity. Whatever the cause or content, God encourages us to make our requests known to Him. Prayer may be a quiet word of thanks or an urgent cry for help and mercy. Whether silent or loud, confident or anxious, we are assured that the Lord hears and accepts our prayer. It is particularly helpful to know that when you are desperate and cry for help, God always hears you. He never sleeps or ignores you.

God is rich in mercy and His ear is always inclined to the one who calls out for mercy. He even hears our groaning when we can’t put words to the anguish of our souls.

Cast your burden upon God because He cares for you.
