Anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him. (Heb. 11:6)

Ready or not, here I come! Do you remember counting to one hundred and then looking for hidden siblings or friends? We knew they lurked nearby because we saw them moments earlier. Searching everywhere, our goal was certain but our outcome less so. Occasionally some smarty discovered a new hiding place and hunkered down, still as a mouse. After exhausting every known hideout, we finally squalled, “Come on out! I give up!”

How like, yet unlike, our lives with the Lord. The writer of Hebrews focused on the necessity of faith in any relationship with God. He cited Enoch and others as examples of lives well lived with a faith-filled foundation. They heard God’s call, believed in his availability, and earnestly sought him.

Unlike our childhood game, however, they rested in the knowledge that God never hides from those who seek him. He mapped a clear path, sent Someone to provide and lead the way, and extended a clear invitation to join him. While the faithful may have experienced rough spots from time to time, the certainty of their outcome kept them going, hope their constant companion. They knew any temporary hardships would eventually disappear, replaced by the all-consuming presence and promises of their loving Lord.

For any who have not yet accepted that same invitation, respond now with, “Here I come.” Trust him. He’s ready.

Accept the salvation Jesus offers.
