Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you. (1 Pet. 5:7)

IN ONE OF HIS BOOKS, Earle Wilson tells about an illustration used by the Heart Association of Chicago. They invited one hundred top businesspeople to a seminar, then placed four glass containers in front of the executives. Each held a preserved human heart.

The first heart had belonged to a man who had died in an accident, and it looked exactly as the heart of a middle-aged man should look. The second heart was swollen to twice its normal size. This heart had belonged to a hard-driving business executive who had died in a fit of anger while arguing with a client.

The third heart represented a man who had lived under constant tension and refused to relax or delegate responsibility. He died from a coronary thrombosis. The fourth had belonged to a man who had suffered a heart attack under the strain of domestic trouble. Yet he had recovered and had enjoyed several years of normal living.

The graphic illustration caused the businesspeople to take stock of their own lifestyles and bouts with anxiety.

All of us should heed this lesson. We can internalize worry, or we can cast our anxiety on the Lord, remembering that He cares for us.

Find a way to release your anxiety to God today.
