Save us and help us with your right hand, that those you love may be delivered. (Ps. 108:6)

Expanded Passage: Psalm 108:1-13

As a young man, Hudson Taylor felt that God was calling him to missionary work in China, where the church had yet to be established. Taylor wrote of his early years: “Not many months after my conversion . . . I besought [God] to give me some work to do for him . . . no matter how trying or trivial.” In 1865, Taylor began the China Inland Mission, which eventually sent more than three hundred missionaries into the country over the next twenty-five years. Even after Mao Tse-Tung expelled the missionaries, China’s church continued to flourish, despite intense persecution.

David also sang about God awakening a desire to serve him, no matter where that assignment might lead. David spoke these words in a time of crisis, when his enemies seemed to be stronger than he was. No matter. David was confident in God’s deliverance and eventual testimony to the nations. Until that happened, he would continue to praise God.

As he did for Hudson Taylor, God may have placed something in front of you that seems impossible to accomplish. Humanly speaking, that may very well be true. But what can God accomplish in and through you, if you remain his willing servant? Submit only to him, and soon you will be writing your psalms of praise and thanksgiving for all he has accomplished through you.

Reflect on the past few months and how God has directed you.
