Because your love is better than life, my lips will glorify you. (Ps. 63:3)
Expanded Passage: Psalm 63
We all approach God with preconceived notions about who God is. If you think about it, no two of us have exactly the same image of God in our minds. We all bring our own backgrounds, personalities, education, and experiences, applying our own insights to understand the God we serve. If there is one rock-solid truth that we can all know and embrace about God, however, it is that God is infinite love. God’s love is greater than any love we can imagine with our human minds.
Psalm 63 is a psalm David wrote when he was in the desert, possibly during the time when he was on the run from Saul (1 Sam. 23–24) or when he fled from Jerusalem because of his son Absalom’s conspiracy to kill him (2 Sam. 15). David’s song opens with words of longing for God. Resting there in a “dry and parched land where there is no water” (Ps. 63:1), David’s thoughts were not about his dependence on water, but on his need to remain connected with God. Even though things weren’t going his way, he trusted his fortunes would turn. He continued to praise God “because your love is better than life” itself (v. 3).
There is no greater refuge from life’s storms than God’s infinite love. Stay connected with God and continually rest in his love.
Think about God's unimaginably immense love!
