Your throne, O God, will last for ever and ever. (Heb. 1:8)

As a child, death is extremely hard to understand. When my father died, it was devastating. I could not understand why he was taken away from me. Despite assurances he would always be with me and adults explaining how he was not really gone, I knew it was not true. I saw him at the funeral home in the casket, and I watched while it was lowered into the ground. He was gone! The experience caused me to wonder if there was anything I could depend on without the fear of one day having it taken away.

When Jesus died on the cross, he overcame the world we live in and established his eternal throne. Thus, for those who love God, life continues eternally with him. He transcends time. The physical death of loved ones we experience is not indicative of the ending of Jesus’ reign. Rather, if we choose personal salvation through him, our lives continue on forever. There are no additional battles or wars he must overcome. There are no additional demons he must defeat. It is done.

Sometimes my focus on the world overtakes my knowledge of the finality of Jesus’ sacrifice. It is imperative to know Jesus is always enough. The kingdom of God reigns and cannot be overthrown. Eternal life through salvation is forevermore a gift available to all.

Pause and give thanks for a salvation unearned, undeniable, and unchangeable.
