Listen to today’s devo!

“It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. To the thirsty I will give water without cost from the spring of the water of life.” (Rev. 21:6)

When people repeat themselves—especially speakers—it usually lets you know that what they are saying is important. That’s the wisdom behind the old public speaking adage, “When you speak, be sure to tell them what you’re going to say. Then say it. Then wrap up by telling them what you said.” When words bear repeating, they hold weight and ought to be carefully considered. Repetition usually signals the core of the message.

So when Jesus is the speaker and he repeats something, we know we’d better pay attention and consider the meaning of his words. As Jesus hung on the cross, making the way for us to have a restored, complete relationship with the Father, he uttered the words, “It is finished.” In today’s reading from Revelation, we hear those words again, “It is done” (v. 6). What he did affected not only history, but today and also the future that leads us into the new heaven and new earth.

The same applies to us. What we do today matters. How we live now affects today and also the future. Jesus brought life and light to the world. We can carry on his work and do the same. It is possible because Jesus accomplished all we need. It’s done!

Share living water to one person today.
