Clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not think about how to gratify the desires of the flesh. (Rom. 13:14)

REMEMBER THE FICTITIOUS EMPEROR and his new clothes? Though everyone around him loyally proclaimed that the emperor’s new suit was beautiful, this fairytale character was really wearing nothing. His “clothing” revealed his frivolous arrogance as well as his lack of judgment.

Holy people reveal the love inside them by their interactions on a daily basis. By the way they behave and by the choices they make, believers who are serious about following Christ show that they are beautifully attired in His love.

Based on Paul’s instruction to the Roman church, Christians are to demonstrate that God’s love is in them by loving the community of faith, sharing what they have, returning good for evil, honoring the lawful authority, and paying their debts. And all of these wonderful behaviors find their wellspring in a life that is fully garmented with the Lord Jesus Christ. What’s more, these holy behaviors are an aid in turning us away from sinful behaviors.

What we wear tells a lot about us. We are identified in many ways according to our clothing. Social status, age, gender, club or sports associations, military or religious affiliations—all of these can, in some way, be indicated through clothing.

God wants His people to know that they must be fully clothed in Him. Today, commit yourself to delighting in the wardrobe He has provided. It will suit you perfectly.

The next time you change clothes, remember to “put on” love for others.
