You see that a person is justified by what he does and not by faith alone. (James 2:24)

SWEET MEMORIES OFTEN COME to mind of sitting in church as a child with my family, singing the old songs such as “Send the Light,” “Trust and Obey,” and “What a Friend We Have in Jesus.” Those songs are even more precious now because I have lived them. I know them to be true. One song says, “We’ll work ‘til Jesus comes.”

Our works matter. That is how people first became acquainted with who Jesus was. His miracles of healing made the gossip circles even before His message got through. It was Jesus’ actions that drew the crowd to him, and then they heard the gospel. God knew Jesus’ heart, but people needed to see His works. What a perfect example Jesus is for us.

I can just see James shouting from the rooftop, “My friends, I have good news! Faith is all it takes to make God our Father. But once we really know Him, we love Him so much that we want to work for Him.” That is how it should be. God plants His seed. He prompts us to share love, joy, peace, and the gospel with others. There’s not a single thing we can brag about in our redemption. Our works are just love offerings because it’s all about Him.

Ask the Father to show you His work in your life.
