To Jesus the mediator of a new covenant, and to the sprinkled blood that speaks a better word than the blood of Abel. (Heb. 12:24)

Many have a streak in them that likes to see people get what they deserve. Part of us rejoices when those who have done wrong suffer the consequences they have earned. However, when I make a bad decision, I hope people will extend me lots of grace, because I don’t want to suffer because of my mistakes. All of us can relate. We like to see consequences for wrong actions, but no one enjoys experiencing them.

On our own, we would suffer a lot of consequences for our sins. Nothing could pay for all our sins, except someone who was and is perfectly whole and holy. Abel died because of his brother’s anger. Can you imagine if God unleashed his full anger against us? We would all be long dead and gone. Whenever we go astray and offend God, someone has to pay for all of that and make it right.

God provided a way for us to experience forgiveness through Jesus. Now, we can experience his mercy instead of vengeance. His own Son took on all our sin and shame when he died on the cross to provide a way for us to experience his love and mercy. Let us not forget the sacrifice made for us. Let us be grateful that we have a mediator between us and the Father.

Thank God for providing a mediator for us.
