I will never forget your precepts, for by them you have preserved my life. (Ps. 119:93)

As a child swimming in a pool felt much different than being in an ocean. Whether it was the salt water, the undercurrent, or waves, I often found myself more comfortable with the calm water where I had better control. During one outing, I was tubing with some friends and found myself launched in the air without any chance of holding on. As I hit with a splash, I began taking in water and sinking. The boat zoomed off and I knew they would not get back to me in time. Panic set in and then all of a sudden, I heard something say . . . “Be still.” I forgot I had a life jacket on!

As I began to rise to the top of the water, I was reminded that God’s teachings are much like that life jacket. It preserves our lives. Do you feel like life is overwhelming or that you are going under with all of life’s demands and challenges? Are there times when you forget simple things that could keep your head above the water, and instead find yourself in a panic? Let me remind you to be still and know that he is God. Not only that, recognize that his teachings not only save your life, but can sustain it as well.

Find time each day to meditate on the Word of God.
