Listen to today’s devo!

I am unworthy of all the kindness and faithfulness you have shown your servant. (Gen. 32:10)

At the annual March for Life in Washington, DC, signs held by women, men, and families read, “Life Begins at Conception” and “It’s Not a Choice; It’s a Baby.” Some women held signs that read, “I Regret My Abortion.” They know that God doesn’t step in and change the consequences of our actions. So, they held signs for the life they lost. I hope they know that God not only forgives, but also lifts guilt and shame off our shoulders. Another good pro-life sign might be, “God Forgives and Gives Life.”

Jacob held on to guilt over deceiving his brother and his father. Adam and Eve disobeyed their Creator and gained a guilty conscience. God did not change the consequences of their actions, but he did have a plan for their reconciliation. The difference between the first couple and Jacob is that Jacob recognized his unworthiness. Adam and Eve gave excuses. Jacob sought an answer from God. Adam and Eve hid from the Lord. God promised Jacob to always be with him, so, though feeling unworthy, he valued God’s faithfulness.

Jesus creates and redeems life. We just have to trust in and follow him. Jacob put his faith in God, and if he could participate in the March for Life today, I imagine his sign would read “God Is with Us.” What would you write on your sign?

Recognize that God’s redemption conquers guilt.
