And free those who all their lives were held in slavery by their fear of death. (Heb. 2:15)

I have had the opportunity and the privilege to play worship during some awesome moves of the Holy Spirit. At one camp, we saw multiple deliverances from demonic forces. It was amazing, and to be honest, a little scary. But one word started it all: freedom.

When we are born, we are born slaves to sin. But, the good news is that Jesus died so we can be free. By his power and sacrifice, we have no reason to live a life of slavery and fear. The Spirit of God dwells within us and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. I wish that temptations would cease when we choose to follow Christ, but that just isn’t the case. And sometimes, unfortunately, we may give in to the desires of the flesh; we forget that we no longer are held by those lifestyles. But, we can still experience freedom. And freedom comes through confession and repentance, turning away from sin and walking toward God.

True freedom from sin will require some work on your part. Have accountability with someone you trust; cut away anything in your life that may cause you to stumble; grow stronger in your faith through prayer and Scripture. When we take these steps, we can begin to realize that we are no longer slaves to sin. We are free.
