Pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance and gentleness. (1 Tim. 6:11)

PEOPLE OF CHARACTER

COURAGEOUS. HONEST. LOYAL. SELFLESS. These are just a few words I could use to describe the various men and women who have served as role models in my life. Some have one specific dominant trait, while others have several traits that are equally visible. God has used each of these men and women at precise times in my life to challenge me and guide me closer to the Lord.

We tend to focus on one or two main traits when we describe someone. I have heard people identify a trait they hope others will use to describe them after death. I don’t think this is wrong, but I think it can diminish the fact that God wants us to strive to be men and women who are righteous, godly, faithful, loving, enduring, and gentle. Jesus himself possessed these traits and revealed His flawless character to us. If we are to strive to be more like Christ, we need to attain these traits as well by yielding ourselves daily to the Holy Spirit. He alone is capable of producing godly character (Gal. 5:22–23).

As we challenge ourselves to grow in these areas, we continually become the individuals God wants us to be—men and women of character.

Ask God what traits He wants to continue building in your character.
